I arrived in Fairbanks for the summer this past week, and was surprised to find the weather consistently in the 70’s, with no clouds to be seen for hundreds of miles. I quickly pulled some strings at work to see if I could get a few days off, and headed straight to Denali National Park.
With the beautiful weather, I fully expected the bears to be up and easy to spot. My estimation was off, as we didn’t see a single bear. Regardless, we got in a few good hikes, saw plenty of caribou, a wolf, and topped off the trip with a flight into basecamp. When we landed, the temperature on the Kahiltna was nearly 60 degrees. Spectacular.
Hope the good weather sticks for the whole summer. But if not, it’s already been better than the whole of last summer… Nevertheless, I’ve got a good feeling about it.
Cool pics from Alaska…love the close-up of the Caribou. I hope the weather stays good for you, and glad to see you’re able to take pics even while you’re busy working for the summer!
Dan,
Love the photos on your website, we’ll be watching to see if you post more. The group missed you after you left us on the dock in Valdez. Thanks for helping us have the vacation of a lifetime.
